If materials are mixed together, they will generally be assessed at the lowest applicable rate for the batch. Taking a few minutes to sort beforehand is worthwhile.

We do not accept aluminium items that contain hazardous residue, pressurised cylinders, or aluminium bonded to other materials in a way that prevents practical recycling (such as foil-lined plastic laminates common in food packaging). Aluminium combined with heavy steel inserts or large amounts of non-metallic material may need to be assessed separately. The main factors are the type of aluminium (extrusion, cast or sheet), cleanliness, and whether it is free of attachments such as steel bolts, rubber seals, plastic trim or other non-aluminium materials. Extrusions and clean sheet offcuts generally attract the strongest assessment because they are a known, consistent alloy. Cast aluminium — commonly found in car parts and cookware — is a different alloy and is assessed separately. Removing steel fixings and other contaminants before you arrive will help with the assessment.
